Volunteer
Join our team and have fun while supporting a great cause!
Why Should I Volunteer?
Volunteers are the heart of what we do. As a volunteer, you’ll become an integral part of our program and team, working directly with horses, riders, Boots and Buddies staff, and other volunteers.
As a Boots and Buddies volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to:
-
Have fun and make new friends
-
Learn new skills and gain experience working with people and horses
-
Explore career opportunities and build your resume
-
complete school community service requirements while giving back to your community
-
Build leadership skills
-
Be personally rewarded by knowing that your dedication and support will positively impact the lives of our riders, their families, and the community

What can I do as a volunteer?
If you’re willing to give of yourself and commit your time, you can help us in a wide range of roles, including:
-
side walker: side walkers are responsible for ensuring the safety of the rider. Their role is to communicate with and provide appropriate support to the rider. No prior horse experience is necessary – training is provided.
-
horse leader: horse leaders are responsible for grooming and tacking, and they lead the horses during lessons. Horse leaders need some horse knowledge and experience.
-
fund raising and special events organizer
-
volunteer coordinator
-
grant writer and/or sponsor outreach organizer
-
administrative and marketing tasks: preparing informational materials such as flyers, pamphlets, advertising on social media, helping with our web site
-
Do you have any special skills?? – If you have any skills or professional/technical experience that can benefit our program, such as photography, graphic design, computer knowledge, etc., please contact us.
Am I qualified to volunteer?
No experience is needed for most positions –- we’ll provide you with any required training!
All that we require is that you attend a general orientation and any required training, have a positive attitude, be patient with clients, and engage clients in activities and interaction.
We also ask that you commit to the full session length (8 weeks), as consistency is important for our clients. If you need to miss certain dates, just let us know as soon as possible so we can get someone to fill in.
Sessions are typically two hours, one day per week.
